It’s really a utilitarian item; a requirement thrust upon us by governments not our own. We are also not in love with the whole concept. But tell me, is there an alternate cookie panel with which you are enamored? thanks for your constructive feedback, Jaime
Hi Jaime, in Europe you come across a wide variety of cookie banners (admitted also a few of the "using our site you accept all cookies" which seems real bad practice). But there are also many one klick solutions "allow only technical necessary", "don't allow" with of course the alternative "allow all" beneath in friendly colour and bold. Normally you don't see on the banners who provides them. I just tried to find some which needed to click on and scrooooll through data protection disclaimers. What I found so far some orgs providing one-klick-solutions were Klaro! (possibly only in DL?) Consent-Management-System Cookiebot Matomo (which seems to by integrated into an analyzer). On some sites I could not find who provides the cookie banner. Your tool was used by the BBC for a very short time, but I don't know what made them change. Good luck & 73, Chris DL8MBS
Chris, We used the "out of the box" solution that required us to spend the least programming time possible on the issue. We just received a DSAR request that took us a month and a boatload of legal fees and time to comply with, thus my slightly snarky reply. We have a very small staff and we want to spend all the time we can bringing new features and an upgraded experience to our users. It's my hope that each UK and EU user only has to interact with that particular screen once, so we're going to leave it "as is" for the moment. Depends.... When you set your browser to private mode cookies will be deleted when closing the browser (much recommended) and you start all over again... I understand your need of some quick out of the box tool - and wish you to find a one-click-tool out of the box. Gl
As I replied in the other "cookies" thread, ff you block cookies, then the site doesn't know whether or not you're logged in. Not all cookies are bad and there are some good uses for cookies, one of which is to retain your logged-in status. As far as I know, QRZ does not use "tracking" or any cross-domain cookies, but does use some basic cookies for keeping track of you being logged into the site. If you block all cookies, or remove all cookies after browsing, then the price you have to pay is jumping through the hoops every time you come to login. The cookie panel says "Your personal data will be processed and information from your device (cookies, unique identifiers, and other device data) may be stored by, accessed by and shared with 210 partners". Yes, log-in status gets lost when closing the browser but also all still collected cookies disappear. Sites of course may use cookies, this is not my issue. But for the required choice of options users should not be forced to six or more clicks and a scrooooll. I'm not in the tracking business so I don't know which tools allow one click solutions (to which i.e. bbc.com swapped), but they are around. Good luck.
I opt for only necessary cookies, leave my browser open most of the time, closing individual windows as needed, and get no re-prompt for cookies.
